Superintendent
I would like to sincerely thank the Brookfield community for allowing me to serve the school district as your interim Superintendent. It is an honor to be a part of your school that is rich in tradition and with a committed focus to enriching the lives of our students.
Being a small school allows for a strong community foundation of support, unity, and pride. Since my arrival here, I have witnessed this from the students, staff and our community.
The education of our students starts with the partnerships we develop between the home and school. Ensuring our students attend school and come with a desire to learn begins at home and gets further nurtured at school. We ask that every child come each day with a growth mindset and a passion for learning. Our partnership with parents and their child’s education is vital to ensure we are meeting the needs of our students.
The faculty and staff at Brookfield work very hard to ensure our students learn in a safe and nurturing environment. Strong connections between staff and students are critical to prepare students to learn by not only teaching them what to learn, but understanding how they learn. In the classroom, our teachers are exposing students to the breadth and depth of their respective curriculum, and they are also building each student’s capacity to develop 21st century learning skills, such as:
- Collaboration - working together with others and respecting differing points of view.
- Creativity - using your mind to create new ideas and innovations.
- Critical thinking - looking at all sides of a problem to come up with a solution.
- Communication - effectively communicating across multiple mediums.
- Citizenship - showing respect and kindness toward others.
- Information/Technology Literacy - understanding a variety of media sources and how to use them to explore opportunities for further learning.
- Flexibility/Adaptability - understanding changing environments and being willing to change paths or see other perspectives.
- Leadership/Accountability - having initiative and accepting responsibility for your actions.
We not only seek to develop these skills within the classroom, but through other activities outside of the classroom. Students are encouraged to take part in our clubs, athletic programs, performing arts, and other co-curricular activities. Often the skills learned outside of the classroom help guide students toward their passions and assist in making them successful in the pursuit of their passion.
Brookfield Central School takes pride in being small, yet open to the realm of possibilities that awaits our students in the greater world around them. Students are encouraged to expand their horizons and explore the world that awaits them and know that Brookfield will always be the place they can call home.
Sincerely,
Ronald Wheelock
Interim Superintendent
