Brookfield Central School District Appoints
 Thomas A. Butler as Superintendent of Schools

June 1, 2026 (Brookfield, N.Y.) – The Brookfield Central School District Board of Education announced the appointment of Thomas A. Butler as the District’s new Superintendent of Schools during a special meeting on June 1, 2026. Butler will tentatively begin duties as Superintendent for the Brookfield Central School District on August 1, 2026.

Butler is a skilled educational leader with more than 30 years of experience spanning classroom instruction, school counseling, building leadership and administration. He currently serves as the Executive Director of Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8, where he leads strategic initiatives for nearly three dozen school districts in rural Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, Butler has remained committed to rural education, having served as a social studies teacher, school counselor and high school principal in the same district where he was raised. He also brings prior experience as a Superintendent for the Ridgway Area and Penn-Trafford school districts.

“I am honored to have been given the opportunity to serve the students, staff and families of the Brookfield Central School District,” said Butler. “As someone born and raised in a small town, I believe the school is the hub of the community. It’s the place where we come together for everything from musicals and ballgames to serious learning. I look forward to listening to and learning from this community as we work together to ensure every graduate leaves with a clear and viable path forward.”

We are confident that his vast experience and passion for rural schools make him the right choice to guide our students and staff toward continued success."

Butler earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from Penn State University, where his research focused specifically on the relationship between rural schools and the communities they serve. He also holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alfred University and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Penn State University.

The Brookfield Central School District Board of Education plans to host a Meet and Greet event with Butler at a later date and time so that the community may get to know him in an informal setting. Information regarding the date, time, and location of this event will be forthcoming.
