5th Grade E.L.A.

We are beginning the year with the unit on Personal Narratives.  This is a unit made up of 15 lessons and will focus on  reading, writing, language, and speaking and listening. th

Students will also be required to read several novels this year.  To start off, we will be reading the novel "Frindle", which is a fun, easy read to get students back in to reading and reading comprehension.  Throughout the year I will post new novels we are reading as a class, if you would like to check out the book ahead of time.  As the year progresses, I will be grouping students in novel groups dependent on their reading levels.

To begin with, students will also work on strengthening their writing by creating strong paragraphs.  The goal is to create 5-7 sentence paragraphs, and to create essays with 5 paragraphs by the end of the school year.
