Ms. Colleen Rutherford

Welcome to sixth grade! I have been a teacher at BCS for over 23 years! I started as a long-term substitute reading teacher in 1996, then was hired as the full-time fourth grade teacher in 2000. I am very pleased to be currently the sixth grade math/science teacher.  I enjoy swimming, kayaking, gardening, reading, and listening to live music. I am very passionate about teaching and learning. I strive to be a lifelong learner. I received my Administrative Degree from SUNY Cortland as a School Building/District Leader in my late forties in 2021!

I began my education at SUNY Morrisville where I did an internship as a student volunteer in a middle school. It was then that I decided that I loved being in the classroom. I went on to Utica College, where I received my bachelor’s degree in History/Education, minoring in Elementary Education in 1995. Next, I received my first Master's Degree in Reading from SUNY Oneonta in 2002 after having my first child.

I live in Brookfield with my two daughters and two granddaughters. I love being a part of Brookfield School. My mother graduated from BCS in 1969 and I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of the BCS family!
